Holistic Career Counseling

  • Support for Inner Challenges

Our work is part of our identity, and when we’ve worked in a career for a long time, it can be painful to leave, even if we feel burnt out. We may feel exhausted, depressed, or anxious after sticking with it long after we wanted to leave. Alternatively, we may become mired in fear or overwhelm, wondering, "Who am I without this job, and where do I go from here?" Career Counseling helps you process these feelings, transform limiting beliefs, then focus and move forward.

  • Career Exploration & Decision-Making

Once you begin to leave your old career, you encounter the unknown, which can feel scary and overwhelming. But this place between your old career and new career, sometimes called a “liminal space,” also offers valuable new insights and learning. I will guide your exploration, sharing assessments and valuable reflection exercises, then help you narrow the options and make the best decision, based on who you are and what you need.

Building a Bridge to Your New Career

Once you have decided on a long-term career path or “North Star,” I provide expert guidance to define and bridge the gap in skills, education, or experience between your old and new careers. This may include finding an internship or “for now” job to bolster your skill set, networking with your community and professionals in the field, evaluating and applying to certificate or degree programs to gain required education, and more.

Rubber Meets the Road: Strategic Job Search

I can also support you with the strategic job search process, including effectively targeting your career narrative through a résumé, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and elevator speech, as well as planning and preparing for interviewing and networking. A mock interview can provide significantly increased confidence and clarity for upcoming interviews.

As described by the positive habit change business Fresh Tri, on their website, “Practice is defined as the act of rehearsing an activity or skill repeatedly to improve proficiency. This process of repetition is known as deliberate practice in psychology – a highly structured activity focused solely on improving specific aspects of performance. Studies show that engaging in deliberate practice is the key to enhancing abilities and reaching expert levels of mastery in fields ranging from sports to academics to artistic pursuits.” And I would add “mastery in the process of interviewing”!

    Holistic Career Coaching Approach

  • I am a “Holistic Career Counselor.”

    What does that mean?

Holistic career counseling is the consideration of the entire person when navigating career decision-making and considers the emotional and psychological challenges of occupational transition. As mentioned above, I work with clients on inner goals, such as shifting limiting beliefs, getting unstuck, working through career-related pain or identity issues, stopping patterns of self-sabotage, and more. I have a Master’s in Psychology and am a Certified Career Counselor (CCC) through the National Career Development Association.
